Numarine’s latest explorer yacht is designed to make everyone on board feel like part of the family. The 128-footer has been christened Mitan after a term in Hindi and Nepali culture that refers to a chosen companion, someone outside the family who is treated as kin. That reflects the owner’s brief of creating an environment in which they could enjoy quality time with loved ones on extended voyages across the seas. The vessel, which debuted at the Palm Beach International Boat Show in late March, is the second hull in the Turkish builder’s 40MXP series. As with the pocket explorers in the Numarine lineup, the steel-hulled cruiser is engineered for far-flung adventures but also caters to the Mediterranean lifestyle. In fact, “MXP” stands for Mediterranean explorer. It offers more deck space than the smaller 37XP, as well as more flexible accommodation and a reconfigured stern that facilitates indoor-outdoor living. Mitan can sleep a total of 12 guests across six staterooms on the lower deck, with the full-beam owner’s suite occupying prime position on the main deck. A seventh guest cabin can serve as a dedicated children’s room or a working office, depending on what’s needed at the time. The crew accommodation is tucked away forward of the lower deck, so no mitan is disrupted. The interiors showcase a calming neutral palette, with natural stone and wood playing against glass. The materials are not only aesthetically pleasing but also hardwearing, meaning the yacht will “look the same after three weeks in the Med as it did on the morning of departure,” Numarine says. The main salon seamlessly connects to the aft deck, which flows over three levels, offering a dining area at the top, a lounge and a custom pool in the middle, and a hydraulic swim platform at the lower level that stretches the full length of the 26-foot beam and opens to the sea. That isn’t the only place for al fresco entertaining, of course. The flybridge is open on three sides, allowing for cocktails with a view. The foredeck, meanwhile, features a quieter and more private lounge. Beneath that somewhat elegant facade, Mitan is a serious workhorse. Equipped with twin MAN 800 hp diesels, the yacht can cover 6,000 nautical miles at 8 knots. That means the family can cross the Atlantic without a fuel stop or spend a season slowly moving from port to port. It is also fitted with an upper-deck crane capable of lifting over three tons, making moving the 32-foot tender, the dinghy, or other toys onboard a cinch. Numarine says three 40MXP hulls have been sold to date, with the first launched in July 2025. The third is due for delivery this summer, while the fourth is currently under construction. As for Mitan, the yacht will now spend seven to eight months cruising south towards Mexico, calling at multiple anchorages along the way.
