This Ultra-Rare Lamborghini 350 GT Is Now up for Grabs

Here’s one auction that sports car history buffs will want to keep an eye on. A rare 1965 Lamborghini 350 GT is currently up for grabs over on Bring a Trailer. The sporty two-door is one of just 120 examples that were built of the automaker’s first production model and has been well looked after over the past six decades. The 350 GT may not have the name recognition of the Miura, but the 350 GT is the car that got Lamborghini’s automotive efforts going (the company got its start building tractors and other industrial machines). The grand tourer was based on the 350 GTV prototype that Ferruccio Lamborghini presented to the public at the 1963 Turin Auto Show. The production two-door, which was available as a coupe or hard-top, made its debut the next year, at the Geneva Motor Show, and featured a revamped body penned by Carrozzeria Touring and was powered by a 3.5-liter naturally aspirated V-12. The car would be built between 1964 and 1966, during which time 120 examples rolled off the line. The example up for auction, chassis 0148, dates to the vehicle’s second year of production. The coupe’s sleek alloy bodywork left the factory done up in Grigio Grafite and was later repainted red before being finished in its current hue of glossy black during a 1990s restoration. It features chrome trim, including on its side-view mirror caps and split bumper, and rides on a set of 15-inch Borrani wheels with new stainless-steel spokes. The chic cabin’s two seats are covered in tan leather and feature matching upholstery and Wilton wool carpeting. The dashboard has a machined-turned steering wheel and an array of gauges and physical controls that were rebuilt during restoration. The grand tourer is powered by a rebuilt 3.5-liter, quad-cam V-12 with six twin-choke carburetors. The rebuild was handled by a shop belonging to Bob Wallace, who, in addition to having been a former Lamborghini test driver, was involved in the development of the 350 GT. Other mechanical features include a ZF five-speed manual transmission, a limited-slip differential, four-wheel independent suspension, and servo-assisted disc brakes. The odometer lists 13,000 km, or roughly 8,000 miles, but the seller notes that the vehicle’s total mileage is unknown. As of press time, bidding for this 350 GT had reached $500,000. There are two days left in the auction, so it wouldn’t be a surprise to see that number climb, especially since the car was previously sold on Bring a Trailer for $687,000 in 2021.
